5 Great Street Food Vendors for a Surrey Wedding

Updated: Apr 8, 2020

Being a mobile bar, one of the best things about our job is all the delicious food we try from countless street food vendors. We play to our strengths and normally trade a few cold pints for delicious food, leaving everyone full and happy. We decided this is the perfect time to share the knowledge we've gained (through countless events) to help anyone planning a Surrey wedding.

If you're planning a Surrey wedding using outside catering, a traditional sit-down meal may not be the right fit. Instead you could opt for the ever-popular street food style experience. This can be a great way to reduce catering costs and also keep up the party tempo. The quality of street food nowadays is truly excellent with a resurgence of artisan foodies leading the charge. The huge range of choices may seem slightly daunting, so we’ve racked our taste-bud archives from the last two years.

This article brings you our street food favourites perfect for a Surrey wedding.

These are in no particular order and are all guaranteed to be 100% delicious.

1) The Chipsmyth

Seriously good chips doesn’t do these boys any justice. Run by a father and son combo, Louis was on our radar for a while because of the quality of food he produces. Predominantly a street food stall, they cut their teeth travelling the country producing a quality product that makes, as they say, ‘all the hard work worth it’.

You won’t see a frozen potato anywhere near this stall. Each Maris Piper spud is cut on site, cooked to perfection and used as a base for one of their 20 different toppings which range from buttermilk fried chicken to British Ribeye steak. Think gourmet food without the up-tight nature.

We asked them what they love about wedding season;

Louis is always posting amazing shots of his food on Instagram, check it out here. If you can’t wait to taste his food he’ll be the at the Oxford Christmas Market from the 5th-21st December.

2) Halloumi bite

Halloumi bite holds the torch for great authentic Greek cuisine in Surrey and is run by Dimitri, who left private banking to follow his passion for food. What’s even better is that the food is served from an amazing vintage Citroen van, which means it’d look great at any venue. His weekly schedule is posted weekly on his Instagram (click here) if you want to sample before booking him for your big day and treat your taste buds mid-week.

We asked him what his ideal wedding meal would be;

3) Surrey Hills Wood Fired Pizza

We first met Will (the man in charge) whilst driving home from a great Surrey wedding venue; Tillingbourne Farm & Smokery. We were two hungry boys who didn’t much fancy petrol station grub and out of nowhere we saw the Surrey Hills Wood Fired Pizza perched on the side of the road. Ladies and gentlemen, what a day this was. We were taken aback by the intricate choices or ingredients and the subtle changes to well-known classics.

We love supporting small local artisans and vendors, but this is particularly great because we found Will by chance selling from his weekly spot outside The Abinger Cookery School. His food is exciting, great quality and Will’s a true master of his craft having trained professionally as a baker in a previous life. His weekly schedule is on his website so go grab yourself a slice and you won’t be disappointed. Also give him a follow on Instagram (click here) to see what the latest specials are!

4) Cripes it’s Crepes

When we pulled into the 2019 Esher Fireworks night, we were over the moon to see the gorgeous Cripes it’s Crepes Citroen van for a second year on the trot. The business is run by Judith and her son Jack who are salt of the earth people with massive smiles because they absolutely love what they do. If you’re planning a wedding then these guys would be a great addition!

They have a range of sweet and savoury scrumptious crepes, but our favourite had to be their honey roast ham, vintage cheddar, spring onions and sriracha which really kept us going throughout a cold November night. If you’ve got more of a sweet tooth then either a classic lemon sugar or banana and Nutella would be our recommendation. To keep up with the team and where they’ll be next then give them a follow on the gram (click here).

5) Butcher In The Wood

Ben and his boys are our go-to for anything meat related. Their unparalleled knowledge and legendary hog roasts make Butcher In The Wood an easy choice for any Surrey wedding shortlist. Always using local and ethical sourced meat, our stomachs start rumbling when we know these lads are booked in to appear.

Based in Hinchley Wood, Ben opened his doors in 2017 after spending 15 years as a butcher in his local shop. You can expect much more than just great meat, they also have heaps of quality sides, from homemade cold slaw to Med salads. With traditional and innovative options you can rest assured your big day is in safe hands.

A whole hog can be expected to feed up to 200 guests, whilst a lamb on the spit can feed around 30-40 guests. For true DIY heroes out there the boys can even prepare the pig and deliver along with the roasting machine.

Give Butcher In The Wood a call on 020 8398 7678 or simply pop down to the shop in Hinchley Wood, 29 Station Approach.
